Pete's Clipboard Part 2
Good Morning, Good Day or Good Evening...
Round 1 saw us travel
to Jack
McLaughlan
Oval to take on the
highly experienced Edgeworth Eagles. This encounter was
always going to be tough with Edgeworth boasting a talented roaster including
former National League players Mark
Wilson, Glen Moore, Shane Knight and
Ex-Socceroo Sean Babic. Magic however has
reduced its average age from 2008 significantly, however we still contain a very
talented roster of players.
The first half saw us
play some fairly clean football, while also defending in a controlled
manner.
Although
Edgeworth created few chances they were still able to manage a 1 nil lead at the
break. Not really a true
reflection on the half however a situation we needed to get out
of.
The second half saw the
boys start well once again and rewards came via the way of an Adrian
Karakolevski header from a nice Scott Pettit
cross. Edgeworth re-took the
lead from another penalty which made the situation for us
desperate. We pressured well from
this point and were rewarded with a penalty late in normal time which was nicely
finished by Ben Martin.
A fair result at the
end of the day with some real positives taken from the
performance. For a new, young side
to fight till the death and come from behind is a great achievement, and a nice
steeping stone for us to take off from for our next
match. Good performances were
on display from all players, however special mention of the efforts of Anastasios
Christodoulides and Scott Carter who both had fine
games.
We look forward to a
clash with another very experienced heavyweight Hamilton Olympic in Round 2.
Cheers
Peter McGuinness
