Pete's Clipboard Part 3
Good Morning, Good Day or Good Evening...
Round 2 saw the Club
travel to Darling St to take on the Warriors. We were greeted by a
fantastic evening for football, coupled with a good playing surface and a very
healthy crowd. All the ingredients for
an exciting evening of entertainment.
The match was played a
fairly quick pace for the first 15 minutes as both sides were excited to be
there, and keen to grab the 3 points on
offer. Both sides at times
looked dangerous with Olympics Chris Berlin the most likely for the Warriors, and
Adrian Karakolevski for the Magic. However as the game
progressed the lads showed a better level of composure and ball security which
allowed us to mount pressure on the opposition. This pressured paid off
with a well taken header from Ben Martin who ghosted in and scored from an acute
angle at the far post. A one nil half time
lead saw much confidence from the lads during the half time
break.
The second half saw the
game become a little more direct with the Warriors pushing bodies forward in
search of an equalizer. This meant plenty of
goal mouth scrambles at times as the game saw 18 players in the penalty
area. On the break-away we looked
dangerous and with better execution could have seen the lead blow out
further. However it took a
spiral shot from Mason Palmieri causing a Ben Kelly fumble late in the match to
put the game to bed.
On reflection I thought
the boys displayed a superior passing game coupled with a higher level of
discipline and shape which resulted in us thoroughly deserving the 3 points. An
effort we can be proud of and built on. However, the season is
a long one and we are not to get carried away.
Congratulations for the
result, a fine one indeed, however we need to focus on our next task at hand, a
difficult away trip to the home of the Weston
Bears.
Cheers Peter McGuinness
