Pete's Clipboard Part 5
Good Morning, Good Day or Good Evening...
Round 4 saw us take on
the unbeaten, top of the table Valentine Phoenix at our first home game of the
season.On arrival at the
ground most people, including myself were most impressed by the state of the
playing surface.Hats off to all the
hard workers within the club as they have served up a facility that is not only
at the top of the tree within Northern NSW but
one that also keeps improving from year to year.
Our preparations for
this one were a little disrupted as we lost our Skipper, the Prince JB” through
a badly broken nose and we also had some doubt over Scott Pettit being available because of a corked thigh. However there is no
better time to test your depth when the team is playing
well.
Our first half was a
fantastic effort seeing as we were prepared to play one way however the
structure of the opposition force us to change our style to another as the half
progressed. A super effort by the
guys to achieve this and be rewarded with first half goals to Ben Martin and
Simon Mooney.
The second half saw
Phoenix adjust
and play a more attacking style. This left them a little
exposed at the back and had we been a little more clinical we could have
possibly score more that just the one second half
goal. Another clean sheet in
this one which is ever so pleasing. At this early stage of
a longer season I must say that both Chappy and myself are very pleased with
where we are.
However this
competition will improve as the season progresses as that is only
natural.Teams will improve as
will individuals. For that reason it is
ever so important that as a group we look forward, work hard and always try to
achieve the highest possible standards both individually and as a
group.
Cheers
