Over 35 Armidale Football Carnival The Broadmeadow Magic Over 35’s travelled to Armidale over the weekend to participate in the Armidale/UNE Football Carnival. A contingent of 26 teams contested the carnival which was played in good spirit by all. After a slow start our boys where hit hard and lost 3-0 to Woolgoolga. Perhaps it was the kebapi the night before (or maybe the beer) but this was a below par performance. The Magic boys knew the other teams were out to be serious. Following this initial poor performance the team decided it was time to play football. A win 1-0 over Tamworth, was followed by a 1-1 draw with Glen Innes and a 2-1 win over Bayside on the first day. It was time for a shower and dinner at the White Bull.
Sore legs on the next day didn’t stop the Magic boys from beating the local team DK Non Athletico 4-0. It must have been Peter Saz’s pink shirt that inspired the boys to this resounding win. Then came the big game against the Brookvale boys. There was banter between the boys before the match so it was sure to be a spectacle. Magic was supported by the crowd as the Brookvale boys were unbeaten and hadn’t conceded a goal in the two years previous in the competition. Magic gallantly played and the game finished deadlocked at 0-0. The Brookvale princess’ were not happy and Magic celebrated with a traditional oro on the field.
Magic was then drawn in the semi final for the Sports Power Cup finals. Our first match was played on long grass which didn’t suit our stylish football play. Nevertheless Magic beat Sunshine Coast 2-1 to reach the final. The final was played against Tamworth in the heat of the afternoon. Magic triumphed with a win 2-0 and took out the Sports Power Cup and $300 prize money.
A special mention goes to the Manager Steve Stojanovski for his great organisational skills for the trip and a successful season. The winning squad consisted of: Steve Stojanovski, Don Seagar, Chris Acevski, Lou Stojanovski, Tony Temelkovski, Kris Rusev, Sash Stojcevski, Lauro Sattovia, Franko Sattovia, Ranko Markovich, Chris Belevski, John Bozinovski, Peter Sazdanoff, Peter Kacev, Nick Razmovski, Tony Urdarov.
Nike Raz’s joke for the weekend. Man walks into a bar carrying asphalt in one hand He asks the barman for 2 drinks Barman asks “why the 2 drinks” Man replies “one for me and one for the road....”
