Magic WPL Trial Vs Valentine BMFC V VALENTINE PHOENIX - WPL On Sunday 28/02/2010 in hot and humid conditions the girls played Valentine at the Croudace Bay complex.  It was a  great pre cursor to the first round of the 2010 WPL competition due to start on March 14th 2010 with our first game being against Valentine. The magic girls started strongly and attacked from the whistle but Valentine defended well and kept us out until late in the first third when from a free kick well wide of the 18 yard box Ashley Wilson hit a beauty that hit the underside of the bar crossing the line,  with Stacey Day following in tucking the rebound neatly (just in case the ref didn't see it go over the line)  away for a 1 nil lead. The girls battled well with normal keeper Conni Osborne taking a field position for the first time in twelve months and  doing extremely well. Our new young recruit from Qld. Corrine Gale was a menace down the left, Kate Hensman and Ashley a dangerous partnership upfront and Sammara Schmitzer a signing from MNC being strong and formidable along with Tara Mcminn returning from a season ending injury last season in the middle. After the break the Valentine girls came out firing with Amber Neilsen  now on the park making a huge difference for her young team, Valentine equalised soon after, 1 - 1.  The girls fought on with the game going end to end with some great attack starting from the back from Lorissa Stevens up the right to Gabby Mcdonald who worked tirelessly all day  until Ashley was once again rewarded with her second after some great build up from the entire team. score 2  - 1.   In the third stanza the humidity started taking its toll with attack being broken down by good defence by both teams. It was in the last few minutes of the match when  Ashley Wilson let fly a pearler which curled into the far right corner leaving the keeper stranded for her well deserved hat trick! Congratulations girls on a super team effort.
