Our first grade have shown their potential by firing three goals against Valentine Phoenix on a rainy Saturday night. The result was fantastic showing we can play in difficult conditions. The centre of the field became a mud bath over the cricket pitch, however the brave crowd saw some spectacular goals.
The first half was an even contest. Both teams had scoring chances however some brave saves by Scott Carter kept us in the match. It was 0-0 at half time. After the break Peter McGuinness made some tactical changes and it worked. A bomb of a strike from Peter Haynes outside the box produced an excellant goal giving the keeper no chance. This was quickly followed by a neat tap in by Joal Wood after a goal mouth scramble. The third was a leaf out of Arsenal's books. A quick play to the right wing to Doug West where he found space, doug sent a neat cross to be met by Joal Wood flying into the near post. The ball was neatly tucked away to the top corner by Joel with the keeper beaten all ends up. The team then consolidated and keep control of the game. A valiant effort with the team getting better each week.
